Five Normal Emotional Stages Of A Relationship Breakup

The following emotional stages of a relationship breakup are only guidelines to help you cope through a difficult time to a happier ending. What's important to understand is that even though they are painful, each of the feelings are normal.

What follows are often referred to as the "five emotional stages of grief". Each of the concepts apply just as easily to a relationship breakup. The major difference is that some of the stages can happen while the relationship is still in tact.

The first stage is denial. There are plenty of stories about spouses and significant others who justified the odd behavior of an ex before a breakup.

"Oh, he probably got lipstick on his collar when he accidentally bumped into someone."

"She didn't call to tell me she was going to be late because she was too busy with work."

Those are two rather blatant examples that may not apply, but how about this one? "We don't argue that much, we just like to discuss our problems." Open communication is great, but not when it's used as an excuse for calling each other names and saying hurtful things. You have to make an honest assessment of your relationship if you want it to succeed, denial prevents that from happening. If you are able to recognize and correct things at the denial stage, then you may not have to worry about the rest.

Anger and resentment may be the most common of the emotional stages of a relationship breakup. You broke up, and now you're mad at your ex. Even if deep down you know it was mostly your fault, you find reasons to be mad at them. You have to let go of the anger and resentment before you can move on. Plus, it is much better for your overall health when you're not carrying around so much anger.

Trying to patch things up is a worthy goal, but resorting to negotiation (the next stage) isn't the best way to go about it. Here you will say and do anything to get your ex back. You will change, make promises, and do "whatever it takes". But you're not really thinking them through. More than likely they do not fit in with your character and will be impossible for you to follow through on. When you notice you're using the word "if" a lot, it's a sure sign you are at this stage.

Depression as one of the emotional stages of a relationship breakup can really pop up at just about any time in the process. You may believe that you could never love somebody the same way again, or worse, that nobody will ever love you again. Regardless of when it occurs, be willing to seek professional help if you need it.

The final stage is acceptance. It's just like it sounds. You have come to terms with your relationship and accept whatever has happened. You start feeling better (not necessarily great, but better) and are ready to start being yourself again.

Remember, these five stages are just a guideline. You may not experience all of them, and they may be in a different order and vary in their intensity. If you are aware of the stages, it will be easier to get through it if you should find yourself in this situation.

What To Do After A Break Up

Relationships are filled with all kinds of ups and downs. Unfortunately, far too many relationships come to an end and result in a break up. There is no question that these situations can be difficult, but if you have recently gone through a break up then there is hope. It isn't always easy to figure out what to do after a break up, but things will go more smoothly when you go about it the right way.

Dealing with the aftermath of a break up isn't on anybody's list of fun things to do, but you can do things that will make the process easier.

1. Realize that both parties are responsible, to some degree, for the break up. There is plenty of blame to go around after a break up, but you also need to look at yourself to see what role you played in the two of you splitting up. You won't be able to get past the hard feelings until you admit your part in what has happened.

2. You both need a lot of space. It never fails, one of the people in the relationship will want to talk about the break up, and they will keep pushing and pushing and... It gets to be too much and this behavior only makes things worse. It can be confusing trying to figure out what to do after a break up, and you have to come to terms with a lot of things on your own; your ex does too. No matter how much you want to run back and explain or beg, don't do it right away.

3. Accept the truth. It is so easy to live in a fantasy world after a break up. People often act like it didn't really happen or that things really weren't all that bad. Denial is a big problem and will only prolong the pain and heartache that comes after breaking up. Being honest with yourself and what really happened is the key to moving on with your life.

4. Seek happiness. It may not seem possible right now, but you can be happy. The catch is that you have to be proactive and track down your own happiness. That not only refers to going out and having a good time, but also to finding inner happiness.

The question of what to do after a break up isn't always easy to answer. Let's face it, you're not going to feel all that great. You'll feel pitiful, deep down inside it hurts, you don't know what you're going to do and you may even feel that you just can't go on. But by following the tips that were just shared in this article you will be able to get on with your life and things will get better. Remember, a break up does not have to be the end; in fact a break up can be the start of something even better.

Relationship Breakup A New Beginning

We have all had a relationship breakup at least once in our lives and they can be quite painful for all involved. After the initial shock of the relationship ending though you might want to look at it like it not being the end of something but the beginning of another something that may be even better.

For every experience we have we learn something from it. That's what helps us increase our wisdom in this life. Take what you learn from everything and use it to further enrich your life. This includes what you learn from things that you fail at. Like a relationship breakup.

I was in a relationship once that was as toxic as they come. But, in the course of the relationship I learned several things about myself that I never knew I had inside me. I found a strength of character that was hiding, or maybe even developed during that relationship. I also found a deep spirituality that I did not know I had as well. The relationship was short lived, only about a year and a half, but the things I came away with will last me a lifetime.

I guess what I am saying is that even though a relationship may not last at least you can benefit in other ways and try to remember what was good about being with that person. Maybe not right after the breakup but with some time and distance you will be able to see clearer just exactly what you learned during that time with them.

Once the relationship has ended and the grieving period is over, try to learn to enjoy your time by yourself. Learn who you really are not who someone else thinks you should be. If you think about it, if you try to be someone you are not and ignore the warning bells going off in your head then that relationship really cannot last. If you are not loved for who you are then stop settling, break it off and either be by yourself for a while then find someone who will love you for you.

I think it is almost impossible to find someone to love if you are not secure in who you are to begin with. That is why so many marriages fail. Too may insecurities on both sides. Too many people try to manipulate each and every situation to their own benefit when what they should be doing is trying to find ways to compromise when the need arises and make each other happy instead of miserable and even more insecure than when the relationship started.

If more people would just use the sense God gave them and think of the other person a little more and themselves a little less then a relationship breakup could be avoided and more people would consider themselves to be happy. Love is an important part of life and too many people don't know how to handle it, or mistreat it when they do have it. Such a shame.

Do You Need Break Up Help

If you think that your relationship is about to break up help is there to give you advice on how to handle a break up in the best way. You don't want to break up with someone through a text message or even over the phone. You also don't want to break up with someone in a public place or when you are with friends. This person is someone that you have cared about so show them a bit of respect and break up with them in an appropriate way.

If you are in a situation where you have a violent partner and the news of a break up may send them into a violent rage, then it would be acceptable to break up with them over the phone or in a public place.

When breaking up with someone try to be honest as they deserve to know the truth. However, if you have met someone else and that is why you are breaking up with them, you don't need to share that with them. Break ups are painful and you don't need to cause them any more pain than they will already feel. If you are seeing someone else, try to keep it quiet for a while so it isn't obvious that you were seeing them prior to breaking up.

Don't just rush into a break up; think about what you are going to say beforehand. Even if you are sure this is what you want, you will probably still feel a little nervous. Don't let your partner talk you out of breaking up if you are sure that this is what is best for you. If you think about what you are going to say and be prepared then it will be easier to be confident and stand your ground.

When you have broken up you need to give them space. Don't start calling them to see how they are, even if you still care about them and are concerned about them. Calling them will only give them false hope that you may be able to reconcile. Even when you are doing the breaking up you will still feel some sadness and a sense of loss, which is to be expected. You may need to change some of the habits you had and do things differently so you can move on.

If you are not seeing anyone else, then you should try being single for a little while and be happy on your own. You will be more successful in a relationship if you are a happy person on your own. You need to adjust to life without your partner and you don't want to rush into another relationship on the rebound.

It's tough breaking up with someone regardless of whether you are doing the breaking up or not. Unless the relationship was really bad and you hate your ex, you will feel some sadness at the end of a relationship. Follow the tips above to give you the break up help that can keep your split respectful and amicable which is the best outcome for both partners.

Relaitonship Breakup Advice-Sorry Nothing Makes It Easy

Breakups can be tough on both the person getting dumped and the person doing the breaking up. You spend all that time and effort into building a relationship with the person and in the end it was all for nothing as the whole thing comes crashing down. This can be hard no matter how you look at it.

Relationships can fail for any number of reasons. People are different and they can change over time, the person you got involved with may not be the same person they are today. Or maybe it was something as simple as you getting bored. No matter the reason breakups can be emotionally taxing ordeals.

Now do not get me wrong, not all relationships end due to disaster. There are plenty of times where the two people simply agree it wont work and go their separate ways. This is the best possible breakup since nobody is really left feeling hurt.

Unfortunately it does not always go that way and you may be left feeling hurt and used. This is typically where people need some relaitonship breakup advice to help them get through this troubling time.

Some of the things you should keep in mind is that you should never beg your ex to return. You may still love them and they may still love you, but if they feel this wont work out, then there is not much you can do or say to change their mind. If you persist all this does is make you look pathetic and annoys them.

Hold your head high and do not stoop to that level, while it may hurt it is best to simply accept their decision and move on with your life. Dwelling over what happened will not change the past, and it will just keep you from moving forward.

You should also try to reflect on the relationship and try to determine where it went wrong. Regardless of which side of the breakup you were on, you can still find the problems. If you were the one at fault, own up to your mistakes and try to fix them so that you do not repeat them in your next relationship. If they were at fault try to avoid hooking up with someone with similar flaws, otherwise you will just end up repeating history.

Another good relaitonship breakup advice is to try and get away after a breakup. A nice vacation or simply spending the weekend somewhere can do you a world of good. It helps take your mind off the whole thing and can uplift your spirits. It is not wrong to want to avoid pain, so distracting yourself from the emotional trauma of it all is a good thing.

In the end, simply remember that love is about trial and error like everything else. We do not know every single thing about our partners so we wont know if we are a good match or not. Simply keep on the horse and keep searching for your true soul mate, and if you hit a bump along the way do not let that discourage you.

How To Deal With A Boyfriend Break Up

Have you just broken up with your boyfriend? Are you spending your days wondering if you can get him back? This article will give you some helpful advice about a boyfriend break up.

The first thing you need to do is decide whether the relationship is really over or if this break up is just a temporary split. If the relationship is really over then you need to acknowledge that so you can move on.

Of course it is going to take time to get over your ex as he has been a big part of your life for a long time. There are things that you can do to try and reconcile with him if you believe that is what you really want.

If you have realized that you are not meant to be together, that the relationship is truly over, then there are steps that you can take to bring closure to the relationship and your feelings.

It will help if you can talk about your feelings. Keeping your feelings bottled up will only drag things on longer than necessary. If you can communicate your hurt you can begin healing and move on. You can do this by:

- Talking to friends or family who are there for you. You might find that some of your friends are not up to the challenge of helping you through a break up, but a true friend will be there to give you a shoulder to cry on.

- Talk to a therapist about your feelings. You can visit a therapist on a short term basis just to talk about your situation, without needing to share your feelings with anyone you know personally.

- Write about your feelings in a journal. Even writing your feelings down can help release them and allow you to move on.

You will need to get rid of anything that belongs to your ex. Keeping his things around the house will be a constant reminder of him so it's best to get rid of them. You can give things back to your ex or just throw them away. If there are things that you just can't bring yourself to throw out then put them in a box and store them away.

Next, you need to make some plans for how to spend your time. When you were in a relationship you probably spent most of your time together so now you need to learn to go out and do things on your own. Look at this as a chance to do your own thing and to be able to do what you want, when you want.

Don't sit around the house feeling sad and depressed about the break up, you need to get out and enjoy yourself. Join a gym or start a new hobby. Go out with your friends or visit your family. There are so many things that you can go out and do instead of just sitting home feeling sorry for yourself. You will soon find that you are enjoying life and missing your ex a lot less.

Before you know it you will be enjoying life and not even thinking about your ex. You may even begin to develop feelings for someone new. Life will go on and this boyfriend break up will be a thing of the past!

How To Get An Ex Back - For Guys Only

Being a guy, I will be the first to admit that we really aren't all that complicated. We don't have that many wants and needs, and we typically say what we mean. But let's face it, there are plenty of times when women don't understand us. That may not be a problem in most cases, but it does become an issue when it leads to a relationship coming to an end. If you have recently gone through a breakup, then you may want to know how to get an ex back.

If you want to get her back, then you need to get rid of your ego. It's hard for a lot of guys to accept that someone would break up with them, so they insist it was the other way around. But it doesn't matter who broke up with who if you want to get back together. See, spending any time on playing games like this is only wasted energy; energy that you could be using to work things out.

No that your ego is out of the way it's time to look at what really went wrong. You need to be thinking clearly at this point so you can accurately assess the problems that led to the break up. Be careful that you're not just listing symptoms of a bad relationship. Instead, a big part of how to get an ex back is to get to the root of the problems you had.

You may want to get in touch with your ex right away so you can tell them how you figured everything out, but don't do it; not yet. While you may be ready, your ex may not be ready. You need to give her plenty of time and space to come to terms with everything that has happened. That doesn't mean you have to wait forever, but it does mean you should respect her privacy.

The fact that you're reading an article on how to get an ex back shows that you aren't going to just let things happen; no, you're ready to take charge. You need to make sure you don't overdo it, though. You can certainly make the first move (when the time is right), but if you come on too strong you will only push her further away.

Keeping your cool is the key. This will be easier to do if you can look at the bigger picture. In other words, you may want to jump right back in, but that's probably not the smartest move. It may be driving you crazy because you want to get back together now, yet that's too risky. Ask yourself this question: would you rather come on strong right away and risk losing her forever, or would you rather be patient knowing that it gives you the best chance at long-term happiness?

Ultimately, how to get an ex back is up to you. You know your ex better than anyone else, so only you can decide what the best approach is. As long as you are thinking clearly and not moving too quickly, you should be able to work things out and get back together.

Relationship Breakup - Dont Be Blindsided

Relationship breakup, what are the signs? Are you worried that your relationship is getting ready to crash and burn? Not sure what signs you should be on the lookout for? No one likes to be blindsided. Being blindsided always results in pain whether physical or emotional. Even if your relationship ends, the pain will be a little less if you can see it coming and brace for impact. There are some signs that all may not be well on the home front, if you keep your eyes open.

The first thing you need to remember is that we are usually pretty good at lying to ourselves. We are remarkably adept at keeping the blinders firmly in place if removing them would be to face certain pain. In the long run though you only do more harm than good by ignoring the inevitable. It's best to see things clearly, if you do you may actually have a chance to change the direction your relationship is taking and prevent the breakup.

Here are some signs that you need to keep an eye out for:

1. If you and your partner used to be joined at the hip but all of a sudden they seem to have a lot of more important things to do, you may be headed for a breakup. Of course, don't be a twit and ignore the fact that they just got a promotion and they're a lot busier at work. If they don't have a reasonable excuse for their sudden absence you may want to sit them down and have a talk with them to try and figure out what is going on.

Make sure that you ask them what the problem is and not accuse them of anything. If you accuse them of something and they are just feeling a little down or overwhelmed you may just give them cause to end the relationship. Be careful to not come off defensively. Stay calm and rational when you talk to them.

2. Does your 'better half' suddenly seem to need a lot of privacy? If their habits change and they become much more private it could be a sign that they are talking to someone and they don't want you to know. If they are suddenly leaving the room to talk on their cell phone, or they are taking their laptop into the other room, you may want to ask them, nicely, what's going on. If they say 'nothing' that might well be your answer since it's obvious that their behavior has changed and if they don't have a good reason why it could be that there isn't a good reason. Again, though, give them the benefit of the doubt. You'd look awfully stupid if you accused them of something when all they were doing was planning a great anniversary trip or surprise birthday party.

3. Sex, do you still have it as often as you once did? Is there a change in who initiates it? If your partner used to always want sex and suddenly they just don't seem interested, it could be a sign that they have found someone else. Of course, it could also be a sign that they're tired, overwhelmed, depressed, etc. Don't jump to conclusions, just ask.

Many times the signs of a relationship breakup are pretty easy to spot, as long as you're not so afraid to see them that you ignore them. By spotting them early you've got a much better shot at dealing with whatever the issues are before the actual breakup. You might just be able to save your relationship by keeping your eyes wide open.

Dealing With A Relationship Breakup

It is never easy to deal with a relationship breakup. Whether you are the one who ended it, or the one who was broken up with, it can be tough. Each side has to deal with different emotions. If you are dealing with a relationship breakup, there are certain things that you need to be able to do. By working on these three things, you can be sure that you will deal with the break up as best as you can.

Dealing with your Emotions

Most people will try to suppress their emotions right after a break up. Those who broke up with someone will act happy or in some cases; sad and lonely, while those who are broken up with will try to act as if they are ok. It is ok to feel sad, and it is ok to feel upset.

You need to deal with your emotions, and understand your emotions. Pushing your emotions to the back of your mind will simply stall the process. You cannot forget your emotions. Because you will simply deal with them at a later time. Ignoring your emotions will keep you from dealing with your break up. Confront how you feel, and allow yourself to feel that way.

Surround Yourself with Friends and Family

You need to surround yourself with friends and family when you are dealing with a break up. Your friends will help to comfort you when you feel sad. They will also help to take your mind off of the situation, when you need to start thinking of other things. Friends and family can be the perfect emotion regulator.

Friends and family will not let yourself get too upset, or too sad. They will still allow you to feel the emotions that you need to feel to get over the situation. They are the perfect people to lean on when you are dealing with a break up.

Work On Getting Over It

It can be easy for people to wallow in their sadness. They do not want to deal with the situation, or with how they feel. You need to avoid this by recognizing the self pity and dwelling in it, to the point of exclusion of all other things and people. You simply need to start thinking about moving on. You need to stat thinking about your situation, and what you may lose out on by dwelling on the break up.

In Summary

You need to confront your emotions, and you need to deal with them. Don't be one of those people who push all their emotions to the backburner. Sure it's nice to avoid the siutuation, for a short while, but the sooner you face it, the more likely you will begin to get a handle on it.

Don't forget your friends and family are there to help you during your emotional difficulty. Rely on them for your foundation of getting over the breakup. It is important for you to work on getting over the break up, as you need to be able to move on.

These three simple, yet difficult to perform steps, will help you to properly deal with your relationship breakup.

What Are The Emotional Stages Of A Relationship Breakup

The emotional roller coaster of a painful breakup typically affects both parties in similar ways. The intensity might be different for the person who wanted the breakup than for the 'dumpee', but both people will go through the emotional stages of a relationship breakup.

Knowing and recognizing the different steps for what they are could help you move through the process a little easier. Each stage is essential so you are able to heal and be whole and able to find love again some day. Do not try to shrotcut the steps, just remember that after you have gone through each step you will be on the road to feeling better.

There's no time limit for how long each step should take to get through. How long it takes will depend on numerous things such as how secure you're in yourself and what type of a support system you have.

Here are the 5 major steps in a relationship breakup:

1) Pain. This will frequently hit hard and fast. At first the pain can be diminished somewhat by a feeling of disbelief but once that passes the pain can seem unbearable. This is a physical pain. You might not be able to eat or sleep. Everything seems like too much effort. You just want to crawl into a corner and be left alone.

2) Denial. This is the step when you start thinking that it is all a big mistake and surely your ex will realize it very soon and the two of you will be back together. That can be a dangerous way to think. It is important that you try to move through this stage as quickly as possible. Lingering too long in this stage can really make it harder to heal and move on.

3) Anger. This is when all your fear and hurt turns to anger. You are outraged that someone who claimed to love you could hurt you so deeply. This stage is very destructive and hurtful to both parties and if you're not careful how you handle this stage you migh sabotage any chances you have of getting back together.

It's also important to make sure you don't become overly bitter. If you let that bitterness grow too strong it could follow you into other relationships making it harder to ever having a fulfilling relationship again.

4) Grieving. At this stage you will mourn your lost relationship. You will often spend a lot of time reminiscing about all the good times the two of you had shared. It is very important to keep a close watch on your mental health during this stage.

If you ever feel like 'ending it all' make sure you seek help immediately. It is impossible to believe while going through this but you really will love again, if you allow yourself to.

5) Acceptance. You will finally reach a point where you realize it's over. You are stronger and better able to start thinking more about your future and less about your past. This time can be bittersweet: you've realized and dealt with the fact that your relationship is over which is sad, but you're also excited about new opportunities and convinced you will find love again.

The more you know about the emotional stages of a relationship breakup
and how to deal with them the easier and quicker you can move on from living in the past to a bright new future. Just make sure you understand that this is all normal and it will get better, just hang in there.

Ease the Pain of a Relationship Breakup Right Now

A relationship breakup is one of the most difficult things most people will ever have to do Indeed, most studies on stress show that a divorce ranks even higher on the stress scale than losing a loved one. Most people do not have any idea how to properly handle a relationship breakup.

The end of a relationship will always be painful, even if it is one that needs to be broken up. You have spent a lot of time and emotion with this individual, and even if you are the one doing the breaking up, it is going to come with many hurt feelings.

Obviously, this is going to be even worse if you are the one being broken up with. A relationship breakup that you do not want or expect is a horrible event. What you've to keep in mind is that a relationship needs two people in it. You might want it to go on, but if the other individual has checked out, you might have to consider that the relationship needed to end.

Still there are techniques you are able to use to ease the pain of a relationship breakup. I am going to outline several formulas that have been proven to help relieve the pain of a broken heart and move you past the hurt.

Step One: Figure Out Why

You need to know how come the relationship ended. This does not matter if you were the one doing the breaking up or the one being broken up with. Either way you need to do some self-analysis to ascertain what the reasons were behind the breakup. If you have a few questions about why you broke up, then you are never going to be able to move beyond the relationship breakup.

Step Two: Get Rid of Reminders

You need to get some space between you and the person you have broken up with. This means that you can not go to bed each night hanging on to your ex's old sweater. You need to clean the deck and get your mind off of them. You need to make a clean break, so you need to cast aside all the little reminders.

Step Three: Positive People

There are negative people in the world and there are positive people. If you have just experienced a relationship breakup, you are going to find that you're in a really negative place. What you need to do is find the most upbeat and positive people you can and spend as much time with them as conceivable. In combination with the previous two steps, this will put you in the right place to move.

Step Four: Start Dating Again

The final step in recovering from a relationship break up is to start dating others. The thing you need to keep in mind is that you're not trying to substitute your ex, you are just trying to begin seeing the world as a place without them. So you need to see others and get out there. Do not look at every date as a new chance at love, just consider them as a way to get your mojo back.

The four steps will have you over your relationship breakup in no time flat. But keep in mind; you do not necessarily have to get over a break up. Occasionally good relationships fall apart for the wrong reasons, and you can fix the damage. You just need to find the right plan.
